george reunited in 2016 for 20th anniversary performances

ARIA Award-winning, iconic Brisbane band george reformed for an exclusive 20th anniversary performance at Brisbane Festival, 2016.

The george reunion performance reunited all original members of the band – sister and brother powerhouse Katie Noonan and Tyrone Noonan, Geoff Green, Paulie Bromley and Nick Stewart.

The band began their rise to the top in 1998, releasing EP george in 1998 and You Can Take What’s Mine in 1999 and Bastard Son/Holiday in 2000. Each were heavily rotated by triple j, gaining the band a huge live following across Australia. In 2001, the band released singles ‘Special Ones’, ‘Run’ and ‘Breathe In Now’ as their debut album Polyserena debuted at #1 on the ARIA charts. Polyserena achieved gold record status within ten days, platinum record status within three weeks, then went double platinum, spending 36 weeks in the top 50.

Touted as one of the best live Australian bands ever, george were one of the first indie bands to sell out huge venues like The Metro Theatre in Sydney, paving the way for non-commercial music in Australia.

The band are reuniting for their first live show together in 11 years as 2016 marks 20 years since the band formed in Brisbane.

From their humble beginnings at the Gold Coast Rose and Crown Tavern, the band went on to sell out the Sydney Opera House three times and perform around the world.

The band also performed to huge crowds at The Gov, Adelaide, Taronga Sounds, Sydney and Melbourne Zoo.

"This was my main creative project from 1995 through to early 2005 when the band and I played our last gig at the Sydney Opera House forecourt. From humble beginnings jamming in my lounge room in suburban Brisbane through to a triple platinum No. 1 ARIA award winning album we were incredibly fortunate to have a wonderful career, with 3 eps and 2 albums that saw us travelling all over Australian and the World. Apparently we were the tenth Aussie band in history to debut with a No 1 album!?

After almost 10 huge years together we decided we had reached the end of our creative road together and we left to pursue different projects (my main one being becoming a first time mum!). After ten years sharing lead singer duties with my brother Tyrone, it was so wonderful to be back to being just a brother and a sister again.

I am fiercely proud of the music we made, particularly our second album Unity. This album made me love music again after I had lost my way a little and I was really proud of the road that we traveled together as a band leading up to that release."
